Lessons from Armed America Armed America Personal Defense Series Book 1 edition by Kathy Jackson Mark Walters Politics Social Sciences eBooks

I wished I hadn't wait several years to read this book. I heard the author giving an interview, wrote down the title but somehow managed to put off getting the book. Its very, very good. I've read it once and will reread. I expect to quote from it regularly. With 30 over years in law enforcement and 2 degrees in criminal justice, I am very serious; about self defense and how poorly prepared honest citizens are when the time arrives for them to protect themselves.

Lessons from Armed America Armed America Personal Defense Series Book 1 edition by Kathy Jackson Mark Walters Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews

Those of us interested in the topic of self defense and who make a practice of searching out good resources for improving our knowledge and training, will especially appreciate this book by Jackson and Walters. Together they deliver a one-two punch, with Mark setting things up with a real world scenario and Kathy finishing it off with excellent, thoughtful analysis not often seen in other venues. If you are serious about your training and preparation for a life-or-death encounter, don't rely upon gun your own ideas of what might happen on the street, or television, or your favorite gun board commando - pickup this book, read it, study it. There are useful lessons found on every page.
I got this book based on a suggestion from a NRA Certified Instructor as I was getting my NRA certification. After reading this book, it is part of my classes. I use and referance this book during the class and try to make it available to those that want it. Yes it is that good and that timely and useful with information.

If you are considering carring a concealed firearm this is required reading, to understand not just leading to an incounter, but what happens during and after. The human response to stress and the after effects of that stress is very important to know and understand.
I very much like the format of this book. Alternating chapters, Mark Walters and Kathy Jackson use a convergent approach to teaching with Mr. Walters citing real life defensive situations (including his own) and Ms. Jackson analyzing the encounter and indicating the lessons to be drawn from each one. The book is written in a crisp, precise style with no jargon or other nonsense to confuse the layman. I've loaned the book to several people, none of whom are knowledgeable about guns and all had little trouble reading it. Along with 'In the Gravest Extreme' I'd consider this book indispensable to anyone who carries or owns a firearm for self-defense.

My copy had numerous printing errors, unfortunately, with the letters 'q' and 'ff' replaced by x'ed out boxes. It doesn't make the book difficult to read, but it is irritating.
Excellent read for the person who wants to carry and home self protection the law and responsibly.
I've read books written by Jackson and Ayoob. Very helpful writers.
I'm a person who believes in reading as much as possible on all aspects of gun related topics. Especially when it involves our second amendment right to bear arms.
Yes, I highly recommend this book.
As a recent concealed carry license holder, I felt it was a duty to be informed and educated as much as possible. The first three books I owned were by the great gun writer Masaad Ayoob, who's writing eventually led me to this author's website "Cornered Cat." After reading and enjoying her articles on that blog, I decided to give this book a try, and I'm glad I did.

The real life encounters are well written and make you feel as if you're there. Kathy's follow up discussions manage to bring new information to the story, without being unnecessarily repetitive.

The only negative aspect of the book was I found myself wanting more stories, I could have kept reading an encyclopedia sized version of this book. It was really that good.

It's a great book, for a value price when most books nowadays are 30+ dollars. I definitely think you should check it out if you or a loved one is thinking of going armed in this society.
I picked this book up on an order that was near the boundary for free shipping. It had been on my Wishlist for a while since I had encountered Kathy online and seen that she always had good advice on forums. I didn't have high or low expectations really; I just bought the book to support Kathy.

I was very pleased. The book reads very quickly. I finished it the same day that I received it (although I was up a bit late getting those last chapters done).

I liked the format, which mixed stories of actual experiences with relevant ethical and legal implications. A couple of times I thought the connection between the anecdote and the legal discussion wasn't particularly tight, but I perceived that as the cost of making sure all of the important topics were discussed.

The discussion of defense situations that don't go as planned, where everybody loses (including the good guys), was incredibly moving. I can't think of any other gun book that I have read that did that as well (and I have read a few). That anecdote and the following discussion are reason enough to buy the book. The gravity of lethal force encounters is very tangible in that story.

This is the only gun book that my wife has ever read. Like me, she read it in a single day, cover to cover, and she was also impressed. I recommend the book to friends interested in concealed carry and application of lethal force.
As an instructor authorized in my state to teach the Concealed Carry Course and an NRA instructor since 1994 I'd put this one in the top 10 Must Reads for any serious gun owner who is NOT a self-proclaimed know-it-all.

The Forward is by Massad A. who is one of the most prominent voices in the industry. The dual-author approach to this book is very engaging, seam-less and easy to read. I hope they do a follow up book at some time, it was just that good. I bought the version and had no issues with format.

It is well worth the read for any level of civilian operator from newbie to instructor.
